Drawing on the Run
2010 – 2017
pen and watercolor

I draw in bars, cafés, galleries, and on the streets of Capital Hill in Seattle. I later return to the studio to finalize the pieces and stay as true to the original drawings as possible. My process is called ‘drawing on the run’ because each pieces is like a collage in that it has multiple moving parts. For instance, there may be the head of one person combined with the legs of another, and an object from across the room —so on and so forth. I think of these pieces as weaving a chronicler’s tale because I am capturing the place, its people, and it’s culture before it is completely erased by gentrification.
